In three weeks, Indonesians will be selecting a new leader to replace President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Around 71% of the close to 200 million registered voters are expected to troop to polling precincts to vote.
Elected by an absolute majority vote, the President serves a 5-year term for a maximum of 2 terms. The July 9 2014 presidential race is being contested by Prabowo Subianto of PDI-P Party and Joko Widodo, standard bearer of Gerindra Party.
Indonesian elections are administered by the Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU). Although the country has yet to adopt eVoting, the KPU itself uses a number of different applications in their management of the election, such as a country wide Intranet which connects KPU’s 531 offices.
