Workers in Peruvian congress choose their representatives with electronic voting

With the help of the Office of National Electoral Processes (ONPE), around a thousand workers in Peru’s congress used a method of electronic voting where physical presence was not required to choose their representatives for the Parliamentary Management Committee of Assistance and Stimulus (CAFAE ).

This innovative form of voting enables workers in the legislative precincts to cast their vote from their own offices located in different congressional buildings throughout the republic or from any computer that is connected to the Internet.

With this system, the voter enters the voting website at www.venp.pe, identifies himself using a previously issued password, and then comfortably carries out the electronic voting. The Electoral Committee of CAFAE installed ten computers in the Luis Alberto Sánchez building, where people who do not have internet access can vote.

In the past year, ONPE has provided this service to the Presidency of the Ministerial Council, Lima’s Superior Court of Justice, the Lima Lawyers’ Association, municipalities, Petroperú, and the Institute of Mining Engineers, among other institutions.
